Vital Records Requests for Dual Citizenship Applications
The RI State Archives maintains and preserves the historical vital records (births, marriages, and deaths) of the State. These records are freely accessible to the public to download and print from home in our Digital Archives. Certified copies of records can be requested for the purpose of applying for Dual Citizenship.
At the State Archives
- Birth Records, 100 years or older
- Marriage Records, 100 years or older
- Death Records, 50 years or older
- State Census, 1865-1935

GENERAL GUIDANCE AND POLICIES FOR STATE ARCHIVES RECORDS:
- All requests are required to be placed via the Vital Records Order Form.
- The State Archives can accept two (2) requests per submission.
- Certified records provided by the State Archives are considered “Long Form” and are the complete records on file with this office. Records may be individual certificates (post 1921) or as part of the state-wide ledgers (1853-1921).
- The State Archives cannot certify Federal Census records or Federal Voting Lists and Registrations.
- All payments are processed after you have received your requested records in the mail. Do not send pre-payment.
