ordered the formation
if so, please send
information immediately
to J. McCune Smith
M.D. - Office 55 West
Broadway N. York
if the Regiment
is not yet supplied
with a Chaplain, I
respectfully offer myself
for the position
I am now Chaplain
of the Contrabands
at Fortress Monroe
but another could
fill my place there
and my heart is
deeply interested in
this movement
for the arming of a
race, for whose deliverance
god is fighting as
well as the deliverance
