Rhode Island: America's First Vacationland brochure

Description

A tourism brochure created by the Rhode Island Development Council in 1961.

The brochure opens with the following statement, "Rhode Islanders are justly proud of the independent spirit in which their state was founded. The aura of this proud spirit glows again as you visit the Old State House, where Rhode Island independence was declared two months before the action of the Continental Congress as you visit America's first manufacturing plant...First Baptist Meeting House . . . America's oldest synagogue . .. the homes of Gilbert Stuart, Nathanael Greene, Stephen Hopkins. The days of whaling, clipper ships, and the China trade live on in shrines throughout the state."
