Image of the Shoup Lever Voting Machine made by Shoup Voting Machines Company. The Shoup machine is a free-standing booth with privacy curtain. It provides a panel of levers that that represent the choices available to the voter. To place vote, the voter simply pulls the lever for the candidate or issue of their choosing. The machine keeps a tally of how many times each lever is pulled.
The Shoup Voting Machine Company was founded by Samuel R. Shoup in 1905. It was re-organized in the 1950s as R.F. Shoup Corporation, re-organized again as Shoup Voting Solutions, Inc. in 1992, and renamed Advanced Voting Solutions in 2001.
