AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE V
ENTITLED "POLITICAL SIGNS" TO PROVIDE FOR
POLITICAL SIGNS IN THE TOWN OF NORTH PROVIDENCE
It is hereby ordained by the Town Council of the Town of North Providence as follows:
SECTION ONE: That Chapter 2, Article V, Sections 2-38, 2- 39, are hereby repealed.
SECTION TWO: That Chapter 2, Article V, Section 2-38 shall read as follows "In a campaign for public or private office, the candidate for such office shall be deemed responsible for the posting of political signs. In a campaign regarding a ballot measure, the president or chief officer of the committee supporting or opposing such ballot measure shall be deemed responsible. The candidate, chief officer or committee president shall be liable to pay any fees or costs for the removal of illegal signs.
SECTION THREE: That Chapter 2, Article V, Section 2-39 shall be amended to read as follow "the following restrictions shall apply to the posting of political signs within the Town of North Providence:
1. No political sign shall be erected prior to forty-five (45) days before an election.
2. All political signs shall be placed on private
property with the permission of the property owner.
3. No political signs shall be placed on public property.
4. Elections signs shall be permitted to be placed or located on commercial billboards.
SECTION FOUR: SEVERABILITY. The provisions of this Ordinance are severable and, in the event any provision of this Ordinance is determined to be invalid, for any reason, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION FIVE: ADOPTION. This Ordinance shall take effect
SECTION SIX: All Ordinances or parts thereof, inconsistent herewith, are hereby repealed.
