PROVIDENCE, RI – Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea has been elected by her peers to serve on the Executive Committee of the Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EI-ISAC). The announcement was made this afternoon during the group's quarterly call.
EI-ISAC is funded by the Department of Homeland Security to protect the nation's voting infrastructure. The group is a collaborative effort that provides state, local, and territorial election offices with an election-focused cyber defense suite.
"The security of our elections is fundamental to our democracy," said Secretary Gorbea. "My office has worked diligently to make Rhode Island a national model when it comes to protecting the integrity of every vote. I'm honored to be named to the EI-ISAC Executive Committee and look forward to continuing our work to evolve and improve our security systems."
As a member of the Executive Committee, Secretary Gorbea will provide leadership and direction to EI-ISAC's director, review and approve high level objectives, recommend new initiatives, and guide the strategic direction of the organization.
"Working collaboratively is key to election security," said Secretary Gorbea. "This is an ongoing battle, and no one state has the resources to go it alone. By working together through groups like EI-ISAC, we can all take part in a continuous process of assessment, improvement of our systems and mitigation of risk."
Secretary Gorbea's term on the EI-ISAC Executive Committee will begin May 1st.
