Secretary Gorbea reminds candidates to file Declaration of Candidacy

PROVIDENCE, RI - Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea is reminding those looking to run for office in the State of Rhode Island that they must officially file a Declaration of Candidacy form on June 25, 26, or 27 by 4 p.m. in order to be eligible to appear on this year's ballot.

"As Secretary of State, I encourage all Rhode Islanders to play an active role in our state's future and applaud those who have an interest in public service," Secretary Gorbea said. "I encourage all candidates to view the latest updates to vote.ri.gov and the 2018 How to Run for Office Guide as they prepare to run for office this fall."

Those looking to declare candidacy can complete the declaration form online and print it out. Candidates must then sign it and have their signature witnessed by two individuals.

Candidates for Congressional or Statewide office must deliver or mail the signed form to the Elections Division of the Department of State so it is received on June 25, 26, or 27 by 4 p.m. Candidates for municipal or General Assembly offices must either deliver or mail the signed form to the board of canvassers in the city or town where they are registered to vote on June 25, 26, or 27 by 4 p.m.
