We handle the registration in Rhode Island of trademarks and service marks.
A trademark is a word, name symbol, or device, or any combination thereof, adopted and used by a person to identify goods made or sold by him or her, and to distinguish them from goods made or sold by others.
Service mark is a mark used in the sale or advertising of services to identify the services of one person and distinguish them from the services of others. General provisions governing trademarks and service marks can be found in Chapter 6-2 of the General Laws of Rhode Island, 1956, as amended.
If you would like to register your trademark or service mark, you may register the mark in the State of Rhode Island using the forms provided on this Web site. Instructions outlining the requirements for registration are also provided.
We will review each application for registration for accuracy and will determine the availability of the registration in Rhode Island. Registration is effective for a period of ten years for a fee of $50.00.
Registration of a trademark or service mark does not prevent another person from registering the name as a d/b/a (doing business as) in the city of town where the business is located, nor does it prevent another person from incorporating under the same name. Should you encounter a situation where you have a legal question or concern, you are urged to seek the advice and expertise of legal counsel.
