The Tavares Collection is comprised of approximately 9.6 cubic feet of photographic items dating from 1961 to 1994. Materials included a large collection of 4 x 5 black-and-white negatives documenting various activities of Rhode Island's Governors and their administrations. Other items include 16mm. black-and-white motion picture film ("Portrait R.I."), 8 x 10 and 5 x 7 black-and-white photographs, 8 x 10 color photographs, 35mm. color and black-and-white negatives, and 4 x 5 color negatives and transparencies. Various events covered include swearing-ins, ribbon cuttings, and groundbreakings, Key events include Tall Ships 1992, Queen Elizabeth's visit in 1976, Desert Storm, Inauguration '91 as well as other notable events. One noteworthy item is an 11 x 14 black and white photograph of Governor Notte with President Kennedy at the Navy Base in Newport R.I. ca. 1961.
