Rhode Island E-911 Uniform Emergency Telephone Assistance Authority (1984-) | State Archives Catalog
The Rhode Island E-911 Uniform Emergency Telephone Assistance Authority was established per 1984 Rhode Island Public Law Chapter 155 Article 6. The purpose of the authority was to acquire, plan, design, construct, operate and maintain an emergencey telephone system in the state. 1989 Rhode Island Public Law Chapter 126 Article 36 established the E-911 Uniform Emergency Telephone System Division within the Executive Department whose powers and functions were transferred from the Authority.
In 1978 a legislative commission was established by resolution No. 75 of the general assembly to study the feasibility of establishing statewide operation of an emergency telephone system. The commission's life was extended through 1985 from the following resolutions: 1979 Resolution No. 84, 1980 Resolution No. 72, 1981 Resolution No. 291, and 1983 Resolution No. 232. The Commission expired March 31, 1985.
