The Model Civil Defense Act and Example State Disaster Act Study Commission (1972) | State Archives Catalog
The commission to study the model and example acts relating to civil defense act and state disaster act was created by passage of H-5528 in the 1972 January session of the General Assembly. This action came about due to increasing concern throughout the nation over adequacy of existing statutes authorizing emergency state actions to combat and recover from disasters.
The resolution had its origin in a report to the New England Commission on Interstate Cooperation by the Council of State Governments on its recently drafted Example State Disaster Act. This model legislation was designed to remedy defects that had become apparent when the Model Civil Defense Act (drafted in the early 1950's) was applied to disaster situations.
