1927: The State Board of Agriculture becomes the State Department of Agriculture -PL 1927, chapter 1014
“there shall be a state department of agriculture under the supervision of a state commissioner of agriculture, who shall be assisted by an advisory council as hereinafter provided. The department shall comprise all the state agencies and activities in operation at the passage of this act for the promotion of agriculture and husbandry in their several branches…”
-the state commissioner of agriculture appoints the chief of the bureau of animal industry, the chief inspector of apiaries, the chief entomologist, the chief of the bureau of markets, the chief milk inspector, and the chief of the bureau of forestry; all of these chiefs and their bureaus are now part of the state department of agriculture.
