Established by "An act to establish the office of the state fire marshall and defining his powers and duties" (Chapter 1800) passed in 1931.
In 1935 an act in amendment of and in addition to Chapter 2250 of the Public Laws, Passed at the May Session, provided for the creation of the Division of State Fire Marshall in the Executive Department.
In 1966, the "Establishment of division and state fire marshal" (Chapter 216) passed. All authority, powers, duties and responsibilities previously vested in the division of fire safety are hereby transferred to the division of state fire marshal.
