Name: Rhode Island.  Commissioner of Forestry (1906-1935)

Historical Note: The Commissioner of Forestry was created per 1906 Public Law Chapter 1322 "An Act Establishing a Commission of Forestry."  It was the duty of the commission of forestry to obtain and publish informaiton concerning the extent and condition of the forest lands in the state and the means of protecting the forests from fire and other depredation.  The functions of the commission were transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Conservation, Division of Forests per governmental reorganization pursuant to Public Law Chapter 2188 in 1935.
