Historical Note:

The Fair Employment Practices Commission was created per 1949 Public Law Chapter 2181 entitled An Act to Prohibit Discriminatory Employment Practices and Policies Based Upon Race or Color, Religion, or Country of Ancestral Origin: To Create a Commission for Fair Employment Practices, and Defining its Functions, Powers and Duties.. 1952 Public Law Chapter 2958 changed its name to the Rhode Island Commission Against Discrimination.

The commission changed its name to the Commission on Human Rights per 1968 Public Law Chapter 160.<span style="display: none;"> </span>
