Established per 1950 Public Law Chapter 2422 - AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A COMMITTEE ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH AND PREPARATION FOR PARTICIPATION BY RHODE ISLAND IN THE 1950 WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH.
A committee of 100 were appointed by the Governor and served at the pleasure of the Governor without compensation. Duties included the evaluation of the condition of children and youth in the state, participation in the White House Conference on Children and Youth, to stimulate interest in the community in the various problems of children and youth, to cooperate with all federal, state, local and private agencies servicing children and youth and other such duties as determined by the committee with the approval of the Governor.
From Rhode Island 1963 Public Law Chapter 107 (AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF TITLE 40 OF THE GENERAL LAWS, ENTITLED "SOCIAL WELFARE" AS AMENDED) transferred function and records to the Department of Social Welfare.
