The Permanent Oversight Commission on the Department of Children, Youth and Families is the sucessor body to the Special Legislative Task Force to Investigate the Department for Children and Their Families.
The Special Legislative Task Force to Investigate the Department for Children and Their Families was established by Resolution #32 (1990-H-9586A) in June of 1990 in response to several tragedies involving children in the care of the State. The task force consisted of eleven (11) members and its purpose was to review and evaluate the operations of the department for children and their families in carring out its legal mandates and make recommendation to improve the department's performance in fulfilling its statutory responsibilities to children and families. The task force had subpoena power and was to make its final report to the legislature on or before February 1, 1991. The task force expired on June 4, 1991 and was made a permanent commission on June 18, 1991 per Resolution #40 (1991-H-6216A).
