The Treasury Department had a role in the regulation of banking. Rhode Island state law required banks to keep records of their subscribers and to publish the names in local newspapers. This volume contains the names of subscribers from the Atlas Bank, Bank of America, Bank of Commerce, Bank of the Republic, Elmwood Bank, Liberty Bank, Mercantile Bank, and the Washington County Bank. Included is the amount of stock purchased by each subscribers, and the number of votes.
The volume includes an index of subscribers for each bank.
