The Commission aims to formulate and develop plans and programs to restore, rehabilitate, and maintain historical cemeteries and locate sources of funds such as grants and individual or corporate sponsors. Rhode Island contains at least 2833 historic cemeteries, from small family burial grounds to landscaped garden cemeteries.
Scope and Contents: The Rhode Island Advisory Commission on Historical Cemeteries records consist primarily of meeting minutes, meeting notices and correspondence. The records also include copies of the Commission newsletters, clippings of historical cemetery-related articles, copies of related statutes and general records.
