Scope and Contents: Aggregate record of Civil War veteran service as copied from original returns & muster rolls filed with the Adjutant General's office pursuant to resolution of the General Assembly to “perfect, restore, copy & preserve the military records of the state” approved February 28, 1883. One hundred & thirteen regimental volumes bound Muster – In Rolls; Muster – Out Rolls; Descriptive Rolls & Regimental Returns mirror forms utilized during the war. Includes regimental monthly returns detailing men present, absent, detached on special duty or in arrest, reports of casualties, desertions, discharges & transfers & company, troop & battery rolls noting recruit age, occupation, marital status & residence, date, location & by whom enlisted, rank, term of service & remarks respective of appointments, promotions, demotions or transfers, furloughs, death or wounds received, date & location of discharge, etc. Records compiled & organized in conjunction with Chapter 705 of the Public Laws of 1888 as amended by Chapter 767 of the Public Laws of 1889 requesting the Adjutant General to correct, revise & republish the Annual Report of 1865 which contained errors, omissions & inconsistencies respective of the service of men enrolled during the war.
