The 1986 constitutional convention was an unlimited convention established by public law 1985 chapter 326, approved June 27 “An Act Calling for a Constitutional Convention of the People of the State of Rhode Island for the Purpose of Amending or Revising the Constitution and Making an Appropriation Therefore.”  With venues both the Rhode Island State House and the Garrahy Judicial Complex in Providence one hundred delegates representing each district of the state convened from January 6 to June 26, 1986.  Officers of the convention included Kevin A. McKenna serving as president, Albert Rainville vice – president and James R. Langevin secretary.  Over three hundred and fifty resolutions were considered by the convention with sixty four approved by the delegates.  At the general election held November 4, 1986, fourteen ballot questions were then presented to the electorate. Six were rejected (#2, 3, 4, 5, 13 & 14), and eight approved (#1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12).  The final ratification of the constitution took place on December 4 1986 and stands as the last constitutional convention held in Rhode Island. Collection comprises twelve (12) series with various sub series arranged either alphabetically or chronologically and includes videotaped plenary sessions, transcripts of proceedings, journals, committee files, subject files, ballot questions, resolutions, realia (convention stamps), publicity files, public information videotapes & audio tapes.  C#00339
