Records Relating to Division of Coastal Resources | State Archives Catalog

The Coastal Resources program is responsible for the development, management, and maintenance of the Port of Galilee, State Pier #9(Newport), State Pier #4 (Jerusalem), State Pier #5 (Narragansett), and waterfront property located in Providence (Allens Ave.). These properties comprise 33 piers and 28 lease holdings with an approximate combined value of over $100 million.

The Port of Galilee is one of the largest commercial fishing ports on the East Coast and is home port to over 230 commercial fishing vessels. State pier #9 is the only state owned facility for commercial fishing in Newport Harbor and provides dockage for approximately 60 full-time fishing vessels.

The program provides clerical and accounting assistance to the Rhode Island Pilotage Commission, which regulates and licenses marine pilots operating within Rhode Island waters (Block Island Sound, Narragansett Bay and its tributaries).
