Record books of the Newport Light Infantry originally established June 20, 1865 & later designated Company B, Second Regiment of Infantry, First Brigade Rhode Island Militia.  Includes: enrollments & fees received respective of admissions, monthly tax of members, fines for nonattendance, etc. 1865 – 1867; quartermaster accounts 1870 – 1871; company pay book 1874 – 1879; record of meetings & drills 1873 – 1895, roll & order books 1875 – 1879; descriptive books 1879 – 1896 & inventory book of state property belonging 1892 – 1899.  31 Volumes.

Organization disbanded in accordance with Adjutant General Order #26 May 10, 1898 & under provisions of chapter 534 of the General laws entitled "An act in addition to Chapter 296 of the General Laws” passed April 22, 1898 "In time of war, threatened invasion, tumult, or insurrection the commander in chief is hereby authorized and empowered in his discretion to disband any company of the active militia in the state which is reduced in numbers below minimum by law, or is destitute of officers, or has failed to take proper care of the arms, equipments, or other military property of the state or  is in a disorganized, demoralized or inefficient condition.
