Recruiting Book of Henry Lawrence Walcott (1826 - 1910) who recruited from the two story wooden building adjacent to the first Central Police Station on Canal Street in the City of Providence.  Book gifted to Horatio Rogers Jr., April 8, 1886 who served along with Captain Richard G. Shaw in that capacity.  Most of recruits enrolled served with Company G, Third Regiment of Heavy Artillery.  Book turned over to the Adjutant General’s Office by Rogers, April 21, 1886.  Details recruit signature, age & residence.  Volunteers in the first ward light guard of Providence and agree to serve in United States in the Rhode Island Detached Militia [Second Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry] for a term of three years unless sooner discharged, July 25, 1861 – Sept. 9, 1861 157 men total Volume 5 ¼” x 7 ½” x ¼”
